Today’s Safety Saturday post comes from a page fan, Marti.
“Do you or your readers have any ideas how to
reinforce exterior doors? Most including mine are so easy to kick in. Thanks.”
The lock or handle side of a door is its weak point. There is very little material holding all of that in place. A steel framed door is better but still depends on how it is attached to the rest of the building. Replacing short mounting screws with longer heavy duty hardware will greatly improve door security. One of the devices in this picture will also help to reinforce your entry points. Look at the screws in the hinge side of the door and replace if found to be inferior.
These are all great steps, but don’t lose sight of the fact that you probably still have windows made of glass. Window alarms won’t stop glass from breaking but they may deter the criminal.
